Aerial Photography System Solution

Background

AlanDick provides communication network infrastructure services, products and solutions on a global basis to the cellular, broadcast, radar/surveillance and enterprise markets.

A major part of their service involves the site planning and acquisition for cellular telecommunication masts.

AlanDick wanted a way of being able to establish the 'Line of Sight' communications from a cellular mast before they built it.

Solution

Focalpoint designed a custom-made aerial photography system for AlanDick that allows photos to be remotely taken from upto 90ft.

The custom system uses a high-spec digital SLR camera that is capable of having long length zoom lenses fitted for 'line of sight' work.

Full 360° panoramic images can also be taken with this system, with control of the compass bearing that the camera is pointing towards.
This is achieved by having a monitor that can view the degrees of rotation that the camera is moving through.

The mast was fitted to a Land Rover to allow the system to go virtually anywhere, which is important for site planning work.

A Special area was fitted out inside the vehicle to allow the operator to control the camera using a laptop and pan / tilt controller.
